Sewing

Sewing is the art (or activity) of making or mending clothing and various items by guiding a needle through fabric. It is a skill that has been passed down through generations, evolving from a necessary domestic task to a celebrated form of artistry. Whether it's hand-stitching a delicate hem or maneuvering fabric through a sewing machine, sewing allows individuals to express themselves through custom designs, revamping of old garments, and even creating unique, handmade gifts.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

Members can expect to learn the basics of sewing (both by hand and with a machine) and with time and comfort of their skills, can move on to more complicated patterns & projects!

Learn to:

thread a needle (both for hand & machine sewing)
tie a secure starting/ending knot.
identify and use different sewing stitches (both hand sewing & machine)
use learned mending techniques for garments and other items
set up your machine: identify the parts and learn how it works
wind bobbins & thread the machine
adjust stitch length, sew straight lines, pivot corners, reverse stitch...
choose & create garments/items that are both functional and fun

Important: Beginning sewers should start with the Great Beginnings Project - advancement from this level will be determined by member's experience and project leader's assessment!
